Jennifer Vartanov is a mother, business owner, and Old Westbury Resident, and is running for re-election for the Jericho School District Board of Education on May 21. Vartanov is a mother of three and lives with her husband, Leo, in Old Westbury. Professionally, Jennifer is the CHRO at Merchant Industry/Swipe4Free, a company she co-founded in 2007 and services over 15,000 merchants for payment processing services. In this capacity, Vartanov oversees Operations and Human Resources for the corporation, executes payroll, among other responsibilities.
Board Trustee Vartanov has had a robust first term working tirelessly for the community to bring about change and progress in many areas. The first term started out with a push to get the kids back to in person learning full time. While dealing with those challenges she worked as a team to ensure safety first, but with the mindset that the children benefit greatly both physically and mentally by being in school. For the 3-year term, Jennifer has brought her 100% efforts to bettering the district and advocating for the community on tough issues. She has proven that she is not afraid to speak up and be a leader and team player where needed. While learning a great deal throughout the process Vartanov presented many policies that were important to the community as a whole such as the Residency Recertification. Though not an easy task, she didn’t back down for such an important policy for Jericho. While facing many challenges Jennifer persevered to form relationships with school officials, teachers, community members and leaders. She never lost sight of the goal which is to serve the entire District in their best interest.
Vartanov is also the co-founder of the Concerned Jericho Parents, a community group founded in 2020 that has been a quality-of-life advocate in the Jericho community. The group has quickly become one of the region’s largest civic groups, with over 3,000 local members. Jennifer helps plan civic meetings, while also serving as the listening ear and spokesperson for the group. Jennifer has helped the group become more involved in the local Jericho community, including hosting one of Long Island’s largest toy drives in cooperation with the Jericho Fire District several years in a row.
Jennifer is a Vice Chair of the Jericho Chamber of Commerce. She is also a Vice Chair for the United States Marines Toys for Tots program, New York City/Long Island Chapter, appointed to the post in 2020.
Vartanov is running for her second term for Jericho School District Board of Education as a mother, first. Given the challenges and uncertainties ahead, Jennifer has seen from her children the difficulties of growing up in the “COVID-era.” The year-long shutdown and remote learning, while necessary, have taken an unintended – and largely still unknown – impact on our children, their academic success, their mental health, and their worldview. As your School Board Trustee, Jennifer will ensure that the mental health needs of Jericho students are considered and addressed as we continue to navigate the “new normal.”
Her additional priorities include improving communication and transparency between the Board of Education, the School District Administration, and the parents and families they serve. The past year’s difficulties highlighted failures in the District’s communication mechanism, and whether deliberate or not, showed the lack of transparency by the School District. As parents, we know from experience, that information is never more important than in uncertain situations, and the Board of Education must take steps to become more accountable and transparent, with common sense solutions to earn back the trust of our community. To succeed at bringing the community together, Jennifer will work with the community to put their priorities first. As you saw in the recent months, she has worked tirelessly rallying the community members to help give them a voice, to speak out against an illegal homeless shelter that was given the green light by local politicians without the consent of the taxpayers. She worked quickly to stop such a project from going forward by working with the local government and the people. Her dedication is unwavering. Jennifer Vartanov is asking for your support to elect her to the Jericho School Board.
